Redecorating

When we first decided to move down here, I told Dellas that I wanted a place with all white walls so I could use what ever color I wanted in furniture, curtains, etc etc without worrying about clashing ( you know how bad THAT is, right?)  Well, be careful what you wish for!  After a year and a half with all white walls (except our bedroom which Heidi insisted we paint before we moved all the bedroom furniture in there - wise are the parents who listen to their children!) I decided it was driving me nuts!  Ok, actually, I was nuts before and it has been bothering me since about February!  I THOUGHT I had a color all picked out but since my decorator (that's Heidi, in case you didn't know!) was in Chicago, I had to wait until Christmas time for her to look at what I had picked out.

Yea, not such a good choice! (It was a lovely brick red folks!  But apparently that was w.r.o.n.g.!)

So, off to Home Depot we went..... I just stood there while she picked out two different color schemes for me.
Then we brought the swatches home and taped them to my white walls and looked at them for a couple of weeks before I decided which we REALLY liked the best.  Guess what?  We picked the color scheme Heidi picked first.....sigh.  I don't know why I bother to argue with her, she has such an amazing talent with colors!  I can paint but I can't pick colors....why is that?!?!  Oh well.  As long as I have Heidi, who cares if I can't see that one color has too much pink in it and one is too much of a blue base and and and ....

So, last week end, we hit the walls!  Here is a before of our dining room - taken just before I started painting because I realized I hadn't taken a before shot!  That's why all the pics are on the table!
Heidi and Shawn bought us the light fixture when we moved in as a house warming gift.  I like it but it really started looking funny with the white walls.

This is what happens with paint!  Now I REALLY LOVE the lights!  Don't they stand out?
And it makes the dining room table look great too!
(ewww I just clicked on it to enlarge it and see I need to DUST the light! We had to sand the walls before we painted to smooth out all the crap the previous owners just painted over..... sigh....sorry!)

Ok, this is the wall where the computer stand and couch are.... the couch kinda sinks into the white and it is a light sandy color....... poor couch!

Can we all say ICK?!?

And this is how it looks now.......

See how much better?  I don't have curtians or window treatments yet.
I'm waiting for Heidi to come back! :)
(Just realized my couch needs cleaned!  Stupid dogs who aren't supposed to get on the couch!  Sorry!)

Ok, this last one is really scarey.  We inherited this gigantic TV from Heidi and Shawn (thanks guys!- I think).  I have been trying to figure out what to do with it.  And Heidi found an awesome idea on a gal's blog that we will be doing when we have an extra $100 + laying around!  So this is how our living room looked BEFORE paint.......  Don't you just love the mirror?!  If you say you do, I may just hit you!  It has been a nightmare!  The couch USED to be on this wall - little kids finger prints and dog's nose prints (oh wait, they don't get on the couch right? So how did those get there???  oh the mystery of it all!)

This is the middle step - when WE (aka Dellas) gets the entertainment center built I will post the final phase...
You can see the opposite wall color in this pic to the right....... I love that Heidi does stuff like that...
different colors on walls in the same room for effect.  Pretty cool, I think!

But isn't it amazing what a little paint will do?  The lovely bookcase to the left of the TV will be history (well, moved and painted) when the entertainment center gets built.  And the mirror will be all covered up!
I'm so excited to have that step done!
So check back for the final update.

This is the opposite wall in the living room.....Before...
ICK

And this is the after - it is a soft tan/yellow......

There, what do you think?  We love it and are so glad to be done with white walls!
I only have the guest room and both bathrooms that are still white...............
And those will have to wait for.....
you-know-who to come back!
(so hurry back please!)
